Davao 2013 – Day 3 (Davao Crocodile Park)

Day three was all about the kids meeting the animals at the zoo particularly, crocodiles! The kids were very excited. We went to Davao Crocodile Park, one of the major tourist attractions in the city.

Located inside the Riverfront Corporate City along diversion road, Ma-a Davao City. The park may not be a fully engaged zoo with gigantic mammals and all that but it does have exotic animals from birds to reptiles.

Having being named a crocodile park, the place showcases a 'state-of-the-art' crocodile farming system in the country, equipped with modern facilities. For visitors like us who wants to be educated about the animal’s life into the wild and in captivity, this is a perfect place.

The park is open everyday
Monday to Thursday - 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM // Friday, Saturday and Sunday - 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Entrance fee: They offer different packages with inclusion of either lunch or dinner - depends on your preferred itinerary inside the park. Among of these are:
Bird Show
Giant Crocodile Encounter
Crocodile Dancing
Tightrope Walking
Wildlife Encounter Interactive
Every Holiday, Friday, Saturday
And Sunday at 4:00 PM

But if you want to just walk around and see the these animals, entrance fee would be Php75 - Children (2-12yr. old) ; Php150 - Adult

One of the highlights of this visit was about  - Pangil. The death of 'Lolong,' a 20 feet and 3 inch long crocodile, has made 'Pangil,' an 18 feet saltwater crocodile the biggest one in captivity in the country.

Pangil's specie has survived 200 million years. Pangil is more likely around 80 years, pretty much old, I guess this explains why he barely moves. He just spent most of the time underwater in a pool suitable for his size.

However, another thing why he's stays under water is because this type of specie (Crocodylus Porosus) are thermoregulating to maintain a body temperature between 30 to 32 degrees celsius WHICH is the optimum temperature for digestion and other activities, and also in maintaining its territories.

That is why whenever something is moving above his territory he jumps and clasps it with his humongous mouth. He was fierce! It cannot be denied that Pangil is a croc not meant to be a pet in your house. lol.

So many crocs!

The kids really enjoined meeting the animals even the adults enjoined it too! Lol. More animals can be found at the back of the farm. I like seeing the Ostrich, just be careful if you're gonna take pictures near their fence, you don't wanna be pecked by its huge beak! Lol.

I actually get to hold a baby crocodile, Mom was telling me not to do it but I like pissing her off so I did what I want. lol. I was a bit scared, yes.. but hey it's just a baby croc, what could possibly go wrong?! lol.

Crocodiles are cold blooded so it wasn't a surprise when I got my hands on them, baby crocs skin feels like snake skin - scaly and soft but it gets bumpy and rough as it gets older - THAT I won't dare to touch! lol.

Happy kids, happy day!

We ended our day visiting a popular mall - Abreeza! Kids rode the carousel and some mechanical animals that they rented, they were so in high sprits! It was actually fun watching them! The family had dinner in a pizza restaurant, after that we did a little shopping for things needed the following day - it's a beach day!

Rides = Fun! Fun! Fun!

It was a fun spending time with the kids. I'm glad that my niece and nephew were slowly getting to know me as their Auntie (Tita). I cannot wait to share our crazy bonding at the beach. =)
